Rockwood Central Park - 17800 SE Main St., Gresham, Oregon Directions: Take I-5 to I-84
(east), get off on exit 13 (181st Ave.), follow 181st Avenue southbound to Main Street,
turn right on Main and about 4 blocks down the street on the right you'll see the
park. Rockwood Central Park is Oregon's oldest (basket) disc golf course. Originally installed in September 1980, this course has survived numerous "changing's of the guard" (went from being a city park to a county park and then back to a city park) and numerous revisions forced by the continued reduction of the area allotted for the course, as first a new playground area was installed and then later, a second softball diamond was added. *Rockwood has nine holes, four of which are MACH-I baskets ( retrofitted with double chains), three mach II and two Mach III. Baskets are replaced as needed. We will be bringing all 10 baskets to mach II very soon. All tee pads are 4' x 10' cement. The course is mostly green grass fields with many tall fir trees scattered throughout the park. Although the city has posted several signs throughout the course to inform the public of it's existence, the course is often crowded on warmer days due to large numbers of families and picnickers setting up in the middle of fairways. There are also public walk-ways meandering through the park, often right in the middle of a fairway, so please throw with care. Remember pedestrians have right of way. An errant shot could cost us all a course. Being a relatively short course, Rockwood is an ideal
place for beginning disc golfers to get their "wings". It's
also a good course to practice that ever important short game. It's close
proximity to the city of Portland also adds to it's popularity. Regular monthly
tournaments are held at this park during the winter. No alcohol permitted.

Portland Adventist School - Gresham, Oregon Directions: Take 1-5 to
I-84 (east), get off on exit 13 (181st Avenue), travel south on 181st Ave. 2.9 miles, take
a left on NW 1st Street and the school will be on your right. The course at Portland Adventist Elementary School is almost as old as Rockwood Central Park. Installed in 1981, the short nine hole course at Adventist is made up of nine, home-made, MACH-I style baskets. The course is quite short, having been designed and installed on the playground of an elementary school, primarily intended for use by children. The general terrain is flat grassy fields with some minor terrain variation, with tall fir trees and several thick bushes scattered throughout the course. All tee pads are 4' x 10' cement and tee signs guide you around the course. The course is open to public use after regular school hours (after 6:00 PM - Monday -through- Friday). Golfers are asked to check in with school officials prior to playing the course. Established in 1982. As this is private property and made available to the public on a charitable basis, please abide by all posted rules and guidelines. Alcohol is not permitted on school grounds at any time. Always leave the course cleaner than you found it.

- (503) 630-7150 Just across the Clackamas River from the Estacada Timber Park and only about a six minute drive, lies beautiful Milo McIver State Park. As one of Oregon's most visited State Parks, McIver is loaded with a variety of activities for visitors, among which is a beautiful twenty seven hole disc golf course. All twenty seven baskets at McIver are INNOVA style baskets, providing high-visibility targets. The design of the course weaves you along the scenic Clackamas riverfront, with a few holes getting pretty close to the edges. If you're lucky, there'll be a few maps and scorecards near the first tee that will help you make your way around the course. Or better yet, click the course map link above and check it out before you get to the park. The many tee areas make McIver great for those just getting started as well as intermediate and advanced level golfers.

Champoeg State Park - 7679 Champoeg Road N.E., St. Paul, Oregon Directions: Take I-5 to exit #278 (US 99W), follow the signs to the park (about 7 miles). Once in the park, bear to your right towards the Oak Grove section find the disc golf course. Click
here for driving directions. One of the longest played course designs in Oregon, Champoeg State Park has hosted tournaments each year for more years than any other park in Oregon. Twelve INNOVA baskets are currently installed. There are gravel or natural tee pads, but since most of the course is under tall thick oak trees, the tee-off areas usually stay in fair shape. There are 4x4's marking each tee. Each hole has two tee areas, an amateur (or front) layout and an advanced (or back) layout. Most of the course design is done in such a manner as not to intrude on other activities in the park, but there are a few walking/bike paths that come into play on a hole or two, so please be watchful of other park visitors. Watch out for Poison Oak and stinging nettles. Champoeg State Park has many other activities available to visitors, including 48 sites with electrical hookups, 6 yurts, 12 walk-in tent sites, 3 group camping areas, a group RV area, and a hiker/biker camp area. Call Reservations Northwest to make reservations at Champoeg, 1 (800) 452-5687. PARK PASSES O.P.R.D. does not offer a discount to disc golfers concerning the annual permit. Mt. Hood Ski Bowl Disc Golf Course - Government Camp, Oregon Directions: Take HWY26
(east) to Government Camp, Mt. Hood Ski Bowl is on the right. Mt. Hood's already famous winter and summer resort just got better! Along with the already impressive line up of summer activities like mountain biking, hiking, bungee jumping, putt-putt mini golf, a batting cage, and the well known Alpine Slide, Ski Bowl has now added a disc golf course. Sporting nine, high-visibility INNOVA baskets and all the terrain variation you could possibly want, this new course could prove to be a real challenge to those willing to take the drive up the mountain to play a round or two. The course design is done in a three-staged manner. The first three holes are relatively easy, the next three slightly more difficult and the final three get pretty tough. The course traverses the side of the mountain, making it's way up and down and across before ending up near the lodge at hole nine. Better get a map, though, as the design is somewhat difficult to follow without one. Ski Bowl charges $2.00 to play as long as you like and also offers discs for rent if you forgot to bring yours. Even if you didn't forget your discs, you might want to take advantage of the rental discs, as the course is very tough on plastic and will probably gouge one or two of your favorites before you get through nine holes.

Benson State Park - Columbia River Gorge, Oregon Directions: (From Portland) Take I-84 (east) to exit 30 just before Multnomah Falls (eastbound access only). You'll see the baskets on your left as you exit the freeway and enter the park. Click
here for driving directions. Hole one starts about half-way back into the parking area as you enter the park, you should see the sawdust tee on your left. Once you get past hole one, the rest of the tees are pretty obvious. Look for railroad ties planted in the ground as the tee markers. As you play the course you'll notice that all the hole numbers (on the baskets themselves) are pointing towards the tee off area and there are arrows on the baskets pointing you in the direction of the next tee. Hole one is the longest (roughly 300 feet), from there the rest of the holes drop off in length. Some holes aren't more than 100 feet in length, but make up for it by using natural elements to make your shot more difficult. The course winds through the old picnic area of the park and a couple of the holes are in line with picnic tables. Park reps say they may remove the picnic tables, but until then please be very careful and respectful of non-disc golfers if you play this course while others are picnicking. Designed primarily with the novice and recreational player in mind, the Benson State Park course is worth checking out on your next trip up the Gorge. When leaving the course, if you're heading back to the Portland area, you have to get back on I-84 heading East then immediately get into the left lane and take the Multnomah Falls exit to turn around and head back towards Portland.

Dabney State
Park, Troutdale, Oregon Directions: Take I-84 east until you reach exit 18 (Lewis & Clark Park exit - just after you cross over the Sandy River), follow the Historic Scenic Highway about 4 miles until you come to the park entrance (just about a half mile past the Stark Street bridge) on your right. Upon entering the park, bear to your left and park in the small parking lot on your right. Tee one is just across the parking area and up the road a few yards on your left. Click here for driving directions. Information: 18 MACH-V baskets, cement tee pads, and benches at each tee. Located along the Sandy River in Troutdale, this course is unique among all other Portland area courses by virtue of it's being the area's first "fully dedicated" disc golf course. Lot's of terrain variations and a couple water hazards to contend with (skip hole 2 if you don't want to risk losing your disc in the pond - it's deep!). Watch for stinging nettles - especially in the early spring. Dabney is for those with a desire to enhance their disc golf skills. Established in 1998. No dogs are allowed in the park, they have changed the rules concerning alcohol. Alcohol is now allowed within the main portion of the park. All properties upstream from the Stark street bridge. Disc golfers are allowed alcohol on the disc golf course. Contact: Lance Redfern (503)
661-6568 Other interesting info: Bonnie Brook, the small creek that runs through the course, is home to the Pacific giant salamander. The Pacific Giants are known for being one of the few salamanders capable of producing bark-like vocalizations and can actually "Bark like a dog!". Also found to inhabit this beautiful park is the Great Horned Owl. According to state biologists, the installation of the course will actually prove to benefit this and other birds of prey that make Dabney Park their home. By clearing out the dense blackberries and underbrush that blankets most of the park, we'll be helping these birds find small field mice and rabbits which make up their regular diets, while at the same time helping to reduce the over population of these small rodents and rabbits in the park (not to mention the blackberries). Watch out for stinging nettles. PARK PASSES O.P.R.D. does not offer a discount to disc golfers concerning the annual permit.
